EP 75: Finding Peace and Forgiveness To Build A Life You Love with Judy Fambrough-Billingsley
Summary
Judy Billingsley, a retired educator, shares her journey of healing from abandonment and discovering her identity. Born to a white mother and Black father in Germany, she was adopted by parents of color in the U.S. Her search for her roots led her to find her birth family, embrace her multicultural heritage, and find peace through forgiveness. In this episode, Dom and Judy discuss adoption, abandonment trauma, and healing. They explore the power of understanding, compassion, and genealogy in the journey to self-discovery. Judy also shares advice on finding answers and beginning the path to healing.
Key Takeaways
- Abandonment trauma can manifest in various forms, including being given away for adoption, abandonment through death, or abandonment through divorce.
- Forgiveness is not about excusing the behavior of others, but about giving ourselves permission to move forward and release the story that holds us back.
- Understanding the backstory and the trauma that birth parents may have experienced can help in finding compassion and healing.
- Researching genealogy and connecting with family members can provide a sense of identity and closure.
- Writing a book about one's experiences can be a healing process and leave a written legacy for future generations.
